Interview : MattHey

I’ll let you introduce yourself quickly!

Hi, my name is Matei, also known as MattHey and I’m from Montreal, one of thousands of soccer fans! I’ve been a Liverpool fan since I was a kid with my dad, and I’ve also been a supporter of my local Montreal Impact team since their arrival in MLS.

When and how did you discover Sorare? What seduced you in the project?

I joined Sorare in June 2019 after receiving a message on discord from Nicolas who saw me in a server of another blockchain/foot project. I was on the site a few minutes later wondering how I was going to learn all these Belgian players!

What is your strategy on the game? What are your goals?

My strategy revolves mainly around the purchase of U23 players. I really have fun following the careers of young people, even if they are not the “next Messi or Ronaldo”, just following the ups and downs of their careers interests me a lot. You get attached to them quickly, and it’s sometimes difficult to sell them even if it’s for a lot of profit.

How much have you invested in Sorare and are you satisfied with this investment?

When I joined Sorare I was familiar with cryptos, so I had an amount of 0.1 eth or less that I wanted to spend on a dapp for fun. The cards were not expensive at all so I was able to buy a few cards at the minimum price to at least submit a team. Discord games also allowed me to win some good cards when there were not many participants. Since then, I have never added more. I try to build my portfolio with rewards or by cashing in long investments. In short, I am very happy with the course I took, and I am still happy to this day.

How do you compose your teams? Are you the type to check all the news on the net or do you go by feeling?

I always try to search for all my players a few times a week; team social media, news site, reddit, etc. I always try to find all my players a few times a week. This allows me to see if my players are on the right sight and if I should keep them. But most of the time, it’s just to give me an idea of the lineup for the next game.

How much time per day do you devote to Sorare?

I probably spend an hour or less a day these days, but at the beginning of the year I was definitely spending too much time! It’s harder to find good deals on auctions because prices have gone up and there’s more competition. I’m pretty happy with my cards at the moment, so I’m selling much less, so I have less to spend as well. So I’m looking for my players and making up my teams.

What is the sale/purchase you are most proud of? The most shameful?

It is not necessarily a sale, but rather several investments around Jonathan David. He wasn’t a popular player when I arrived at Sorare and being Canadian, he was among my first purchases. I remember that he was my third purchase. I paid 0.017 eth for one of his rare cards, and of course, I sold it for 0.02 eth. (Jonathan David 2018-19 – Rare 9/100). Big profit! I bought several Jonathan David’s before he impressed on Sorare and in the league, and many of them went for nothing. But these are the sacrifices you sometimes have to make to get ahead!

How do you imagine Sorare in 2 years?

It makes me dream a little when I think about the site in two years. I imagine other games than the original S05, maybe a game with a composition of 11 players? Cards of hundreds and hundreds of teams, players bought 2 years earlier who end up winning the golden ball. There is so much potential in a project like Sorare, that’s why I spend so much time on it. In short, I can’t wait to see the project grow

Do you have other NFT sports or other NFTs in your wallet?

Not really, I tried NBA Topshot during early access, but I don’t see the same potential and I don’t like the concept of random packs. That said, the design of their NFTs is no worse. I also have some MarbleCards just because it was cheap and I liked the colors of the cards. Anyway, my focus is on Sorare!

If you had one piece of advice to give to other managers, what would it be?

You have to take your time. I think it’s fantastic that as soon as a card is ours, we can use it as much as we want in competitions. If we don’t do well one week, we try again for the next one. Soccer is super unpredictable, and we have so many chances to win or just make money on the last purchases. Enjoy the climb to the top!
